Divinely Inspired Massage:
A life-changing experience
by Phil Bolsta
Moonlight streams in your window and soothing music plays as healing hands glide over your glistening skin. With your eyes closed, you begin to drift away, to a safe place, a healing place, as your muscles slowly melt onto the table. No one is in the room except the three of you: the massage therapist, you and God. Welcome to divinely inspired massage.
The difference between regular therapeutic massage and divinely inspired massage can be summed up in two words: intention and attention.
Although many massage therapists bring a healing intent to their work, the experience of a massage can be made infinitely more powerful by beginning the session with a simple, yet heartfelt, act of devotion. Holding hands, the client and therapist silently express their love and devotion to God and invite Him to bathe them both in the healing, protective glow of His deep love throughout the massage.
Then, during every minute of the massage, it's imperative that the therapist be completely focused and deeply committed to serving as an instrument of divine healing. The quality of attention demanded cannot be overemphasized. If the therapist's mind wanders to thoughts about dinner or finances or anything else within the realm of his or her own personal agenda, the effectiveness of the massage will be severely compromised. There is no substitute for a nurturing, loving intent; it's not the technique of the therapist that is most important, it's the attitude behind it.
One client of mine, a wealthy businessman, broke the silence 15 minutes into the massage by casually remarking, "Isn't this odd. I've had massage all over the world and never experienced anything quite like this. It's almost...what's the word I'm looking for...it's almost...maternal." As far as I'm concerned, that's the greatest massage-related compliment I've ever received.
For an even more dramatic effect, the massage itself may be preceded by an A.R.T. session. The Awareness Release Technique, pioneered by Dr. Robert Jaffe (www.jaffeinstitute.org), is a deceptively simple visualization exercise that produces amazing results. The therapist guides the client though a 20-30 minute process that identifies, isolates and eradicates the energetic root of an emotional issue of the client's choosing. By pinpointing the location of this energy in the body and then moving it out, the issue goes along with it because the energy is what had been sustaining it.
It should be noted that, while the effects of an A.R.T. session are often long-lasting, if the client reverts back to the lifestyle pattern that created the issue in the first place, the negative energy associated with it will most likely return.
I have personally witnessed incredible transformations in clients after just one A.R.T. session. Many clients become visibly upset when talking about an issue that's been haunting them but, in less than half an hour, that agitation is replaced by a sense of inner peace and serenity they had previously thought was unattainable. By inviting God into the process, the place inside of them where the negative energy had resided is instead filled with divine light and love.
Capitalizing on this state of bliss by moving immediately into a nurturing, loving, divinely inspired full-body massage can be a truly life-changing experience. The deep-down-to-the-bone relaxation and sense of well being it produces are simply indescribable. Give the gift of divinely inspired massage to yourself or a loved one. You'll be glad you did.
