Healing and the Power of Mind
by Alden Hughes

I am a healer and minister at the Miracles Healing Center in Wisconsin Dells. Last month, a woman visited our center with an extremely painful hip condition related to a car accident that occurred five years ago. She used crutches. During our conversation, she heard the idea that all pain is guilt. From that simple expression, she had a memory resurface of something she had completely forgotten.

When she was a teenager, she had had an affair in which she was knocked unconscious and her partner had kicked her in the hips. She had completely forgotten this, as well as the guilt of the relationship. Then a ball of energy rose from her lower body and exited out the top of her head. A week later she reported that she was happily still free of pain.

Everyone is a healer who recognizes a spiritual Self as the truth of who they are. At first you may recognize your spiritual identity through reason, but it will quickly move to a personal experience, as this is the truth of who you are. The experience of spiritual reality is the experience of power of mind. Without power, how would the mind recognize itself as more than a being at the mercy of this world? With this experience, often expressed as the Love of God, there will be no question as to who you are. The experience of power is essential, then, for every reason including happiness.

The experience of life on earth, being human, belies the existence of all but a minimal power of mind. Human beings are seemingly at the mercy of vast powers outside of themselves. Everyone loses the ones they love, disease comes out of nowhere to attack peace of mind, and war springs from worldwide conspiracies of economics and ancient grievances. Anyone who says that human beings have power would seem to be suffering from a schizophrenic delusion. The laws of this world command its citizens to knuckle under and acknowledge their littleness.

I am going to present a few ideas that are the foundation of true healing, and serve to turn upside down the powerless situation described above. First, there is only one mind. We have all heard this fact, from every spiritual teacher from Pantanjali to Jesus. However, what does this mean if it is true? It means that power of mind is total or it is non-existent. Power of mind could not be partial unless there was more than one mind. As an aside, it must be that your mind has some power or you could not be reading this sentence.

So now, let's see what this simple truth would mean if it were true -- and it is. It can be verified by personal experience as described above. If you are a mind, and mind is one, it follows that all power is yours. This means all things that happen to you, happen exactly as you wish. More than that, everything happening to everyone and everything in this world is occurring exactly to your desires.

This is either going to appall you or make you very happy. I would like to present the idea that joy is the proper reaction in spite of all the suffering and death that appear in this world. Joy is possible under only one condition. That absolutely nothing in this world is true. I did not say that it was not true to you, now. I said that it was not true.

The word illusion is often used by spiritually activated minds to describe the world. This leaves you with the choice (power of mind) between the ideas that this world is true or happiness is true, but not both. Obviously, everyone in this world needs lots of help with this transformed way to think, and help is available. Just ask. Everyone will take on the profession of healing as truth dawns on their minds. Not only is everyone connected in the one mind, but also everyone must have a true function to recognize this fact.

We have all heard sentences like these before, but perhaps not strung together in a meaningful fashion. Yet healing requires an additional step. If what we are saying is true, that nothing in this world of splintered power is true, then even these concepts themselves are of limited value. We need an experience, an experience of true power that leads to the invulnerable feeling of the peace of God. This is healing. How would such an experience be described? A miracle. All that is needed for this is to want it, and ask for it.

Well, if a miracle that heals is so easy, why are miracles not common occurrences? True healing, miraculous healing has a cost. The cost is the world, as you know it. Once you no longer wish to formulate the limits on the healing you ask for, miracles are yours for the asking. And the experience of the true power of your mind is yours for the asking, not to mention true happiness and the peace of God. The one mind that we are beginning to explore can rightly be termed God.

So let's get started making our brothers happy and start healing -- and thereby discovering our Self.
