Regression Therapy & Soul Lessons
by Joseph Costa

Those of us who believe in soul lesson learning know that what keeps our life in chaos is a lesson to be put in its place. Such a lesson seems to repeat itself again and again. When we examine regressions of our client/patients, we can often trace a recurring condition or trauma into the past and eventually find the soul lesson being dealt with.

I am reminded of a therapist/client who came to me on crutches. Her knees were failing her, and she was facing knee replacement surgery. A succession of regressions revealed that over and over again her knees had been broken. In one instance, she was in a boat floating down a river in France in the 1600s when the river bank collapsed and a tree fell onto the boat and across her knees, breaking both at once.

Regressing further back, we found her scrubbing the stone floor on her knees while mentally opposing her stern mother. It was a critical time in her soul's learning when she should have "bent her knees" and failed to do so. She failed in other experiences that tested and challenged her to be "unbending." And as her lifetimes unfolded, the knee problems increased.

Although the client began the therapy simply wanting to discover if the knees could be healed in some way, the regression unfolded a deeper truth. The truth being that she was in a soul lesson of refusing to "bend" or be amenable in certain situations where submissive behavior was required. This manifested as arrogance and the consequence (karma) of knees that could not bend. The body obediently obliged the command to not bend at the knees.

Soul lessons repeat themselves until the lesson is learned. If there is no adjustment in the heart, the physical condition grows in severity. In this case, the client was finally able to come to an understanding of the connection between her physical condition and her behaviors and attitudes. In reframing the original event that began the process, the energy was changed. The result was that the client became enlightened in regard to that aspect of behavior and changed her thinking about her way of going. Shortly after attaining that awareness, the knees became well, almost overnight. This all happened over a year ago and there has been no return of knee problems.

Whether past lives are believed to be a reality or merely seen as metaphor matters not, regression therapy is a useful and powerful tool in the healing field, giving insights into the client's deepest conflicts, traumas or "soul lessons." The manifestation of these inner conflicts can manifest themselves simply in behavior that creates chaos. Or it can become physical in the sense that the lesson has moved through energy to the level of material manifestation. This of course is what had happened to the soul lesson of "refusing to bend in life"; the knees became the message, or the "symbol," if you like.
