Journey the Middle Latitude:
Winter Solstice Celebration 2004
MINNEAPOLIS -- Lake Harriet Spiritual Community, assisted by the award-winning world-beat
band Soulfood, will present an inspiring celebration of the Winter Solstice at 7:30
p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at 44th and Upton Avenue S., Minneapolis. The event will involve
reaching out to other lands and cultures that share our unique position on the planet
at 45 degrees north, midway between the Equator and the North Pole. The celebration
will embrace traditional peoples who reside on the 45th parallel and involve dancing
with the seasons.
Providing the musical backdrop for this journey is the acclaimed band Soulfood, creators
of the award-winning soundtrack to the Imax film Extreme. Known for world beat music,
Soulfood creates hypnotic and atmospheric soundscapes, as found on such recordings
as Shaman's Way and Spirit Massage.
The cultures that will be celebrated include Native Americans, the Ainu of Japan,
the Hezhe of China, the cultures of Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Transylvania and the Lascaux
Cave area of France. A ritual will draw inspiration from these cultures and send
them blessings.
Experience a profound
connection with your own deepest, most ancient roots -- and the very Earth itself.
The public is invited to bring drums and enthusiasm for this special occasion. Suggested
donation for this exciting event is $10-$20. For more information, call (612) 922-4272.
