"Caring for Our
Planet" essay contest
Children and young people up to age 25 are invited to submit creative ideas on the
theme "Caring for Our Planet" as part of the 2005 International Essay Contest
marking the midterm of the "International Decade for a Culture of Peace and
Non-Violence for the Children of the World," as well as the launch of the "United
Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development."
Participants are asked to consider how we build a global society in which everyone
can enjoy a good and happy life while caring for our planet, and suggest ways you
can do this in your daily life or in your community.
Original and unpublished essays of 800 words or less, typed or printed in English,
Spanish, German or French and written by only one person, must be received by June
30. Entries

Essays can be submitted in two categories: children up to age 15; or youths ages
16-25. Essays must
have a cover page indicating: category (children or youth); essay title; name, address,
phone number, fax number, e-mail address, nationality, age, sex, school name and
grade. Teachers and youth directors may submit a collection of essays from their
class or group. Please enclose a list of participants' names and the name and contact
information of the submitting teacher or director. Entries missing any of the above
information will not be considered.
Winners will be named in both children and youth categories. First prize is approximately
$1,000, two second prizes of approximately $500, five third prizes of a gift, and
25 honorable mentions and a gift. Winners will be notified and announced in November
2005 on the Goi Peace Foundation website [www.goipeace.or.jp]. First prize winners will be
invited to the award ceremony in Tokyo, Japan, in November 2005. Travel expenses
will be covered by the sponsor.
The contest is sponsored by the Goi Peace Foundation and the World Peace Prayer Society.
